The Covid rules have ended, after nearly two years in which choral activity has been greatly restricted, and it feels as if a great weight has been lifted from our shoulders. The choir maintain its efforts to ensure a safe rehearsal experience, asking singers to take lateral flow tests before attending, and we are back to our pre-pandemic strength, buoyed up by nearly thirty new members since the end of last season. All the work of our officers and professionals in keeping the choir in rehearsal - and since last autumn, in performance - is paying dividends, as witnessed by a stunning Messiah in December.
It has been great to see other parts of the Choral family back in action as well. HCS Voices, our academy choir led by the marvellous Abi Kitching, were one of the first Community Choirs back in rehearsal, and HCS Youth Choirs Vocalise won the under-21 Youth Choir class in the recent Mrs Sunderland Festival.
You can imagine my delight when I saw a Facebook blog post by one of our HCS Voices members, Adele Senior, writing about the joy she gets from the group. In fact it was so touching that I decided to put it in this newsletter!
